The Application Process
Deciding to foster is a big step, and we’re here to guide you through every stage. We’ll take time to get to know you, answer your questions, and make sure fostering is the right fit for you and your household. Here’s what the process involves:
Get in touch with us for an informal chat. We’ll answer any questions you have and give you a better idea of what fostering with us looks like.
If we agree to proceed, we’ll invite you to complete a fostering application form and begin background checks, including a DBS check and medical.
We’ll arrange to visit you at home (or meet online) to learn more about your motivation to foster, your home environment, and your lifestyle. It’s a chance for both of us to decide if we should move forward.
You’ll attend Skills to Foster training — an essential part of becoming a foster carer. It helps you build confidence and reflect on the realities of fostering.
One of our social workers will visit you regularly to carry out a full assessment (known as a Form F). They’ll explore your experiences, values, relationships, and support network. This helps us understand how you might meet the needs of a child in care.
Once your assessment is complete, you’ll be invited to a fostering panel. They’ll review your application and make a recommendation. The final decision is made by our Agency Decision Maker.
Once approved, we’ll start matching you with children and young people. You’ll have access to 24/7 support, regular supervision, and ongoing training from a team that knows you personally.
